Staples Rodway Financial Management Awards
Runner Up – KT Enterprises, Matamata College
Winner – Substance, Cambridge High School
Substance is a company that promotes and runs alcohol and drug free dances in the Cambridge area.
King St Advertising Sales and Marketing Award
Winner – SM!CKS, Hillcrest High School
SMICKS marketed their tee-shirts depicting strange ways of dying with great style and enthusiasm, through an excellent Facebook page, newsletters, Product Launch and stalls at the Frankton Markets, and many other avenues. They achieved very good sales results and had a positive, go-getting approach to sales and marketing.
University of Waikato Leadership Award
Winner – Daisy Stuart, Waikato Diocesan School for Girls
Daisy is described by her group and business mentor as an “exceptional leader”. She created a positive team culture with her company Forever Young. Daisy is incredibly focused and committed to team achievement and did her best to ensure that everyone enjoyed their YES experience. Daisy delegated carefully and considerately, led by example and became a very capable Chair.
The Waikato Business News Awards for Commitment
Runner Up – Greg Edgecombe, Cambridge High School
Winner – Project Monster, Hamilton Boys High School
Project Monster is an online web-based magazine designed for the youth market.
Project Monster received the highest score for completion of the Regional Co-ordinator requirements, and submitted a very well presented annual report.
Te Wananga o Aotearoa Best Maori Business Award
Winner – PAX, Nga Taiatea Wharekura
PAX compiled a book covering significant images, proverbs, songs, myths and legends of 11 tribes throughout New Zealand. The purpose of the book is to promote and give people background information on Maori culture. They have worked diligently on their project.
EMA Waikato Award for High Growth Potential
Winner – Forever Young, Waikato Diocesan School For Girls
Forever Young have found a gap in the market for School House Shorts and have not only produced and sold a considerable number of house shorts in their own school, but have identified market opportunities in other Waikato secondary schools too.
Stafford Engineering Innovative Technology Awards
Runner Up – Electroraving, Hamilton Boys High School
Electroraving has designed a product, Electroveins which is an electroluminescent wire based glove made out of mesh material that runs from fingertips to shoulder with the luminescent wire incorporated into the material. The glove has the wire running down the main veins in the arm. The wire (when a current is passed through it) flashes in time to the bass frequency in nearby music.
Winner – Eco-trail, Matamata College
Eco-trail designed a highly buoyant kayak trailer designed to be towed behind a kayak, so that equipment such as fishing and duck shooting gear can be transported on the lake or river behind a kayak.
Gallagher Best Social Enterprise
Winner – Substance, Cambridge High School
Substance, who organised drug and alcohol free dances for young people, were the clear winners in this category, combining enterprise with real community benefit in promoting substance-free fun.
Milfos Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award
Winner – Katy Hendrikse, Putaruru College
Katy ably lead the team Kiwi Explorers, but also represented the Waikato region at the International Enterprise in Action weekend and was selected as a semi-finalist and then was selected as one of six young New Zealanders to represent New Zealand in Singapore at the World event.
