Waikato Industry Growth Sectors
Foreword: Mary Jensen, Regional Manager of Smart Waikato.
This section is an attempt to highlight the main sectors of economic growth and employment in the Waikato region, giving a brief description of the sectors, significant companies involved in those sectors, education and career paths within them and the future prospects for those sectors.
With particular respect to the "Future" sections of Growth Sectors, they are based on my knowledge, interpretation of the current economic, global, political, environmental and technological situation and interviews with key Waikato employers and educators over an 18 month period. Please treat this section a bit like "Aunty Mary says....", because I would not like to be held responsible for someone making poor choices! However, I take pride in researching well and scanning the immediate environment and most often get it right.
I heartily encourage individuals to do their own research on the future shape of the economy and world of employment. Scan the newspapers, listen to the commentators, ask questions of clever and successful people, scan the internet for trends in the global economy and develop a picture of it for yourself, identify gaps and fill them. Keep learning right through life, making sure your skills are relevant to the needs of the marketplace and employers - and if you are innovative or creative, use your entrepreneurial skills to develop successful businesses that employ others. And remember - New Zealand (and of course the mighty Waikato) is a great place to live. Make it your home. Best of luck"...
